uni, but half the fibers in 90° help, and needed in most builds.

yes, but for overall strength at this time most garage built struts, masts need to be solid carbon, just my idea.

I am not a schooled composite engineer, but I added bibias to a strut and reduced twist, torsion considerably.
Added uni and flexion was much less also. and normal woven cloth for overall stiffening up.
The guys and or companys who design and build composite parts know these concepts well and the combinations and choices of materials make or break a good
part.
