There are some rumores that there will be a IKA sanctioned foilboard tour in 2014. (Decisions will be made withtin the next 6 weeks).

I think we might get confronted with some class rules then.

This forum is definitely the biggest community of kitefoilers therefore it makes sens to start a discussion about this topic.

Do we need rules?

If yes - what rules do make sense?

- in safety matters
- in order to keep the gear travel friendly (box rules?)
- .....
- .....
my biggest personal concern is that they keep the door open to homemade foils!!!

go ahead

As support is quite new, I wish also class won't be limited to serial foils.
For race boards, this rule exists to limit budget, but in fact It "kills" small shapers against big companies (North...)

IKA has established the class rules for kitefoil since 2012, they are not yet accepted by the ISAF.
For the moment, we have no problem with the box.
It is true that I am trying to organize a world tour with 4 steps for kitefoil, but I did not find the big partner.
There will be a step in 2014 in La Ciotat, 29 may to Jun 01

IKA gets money from kite and board manufacturers in order to "legalize" their equipment so using home made or modified equipment for IKA approved races is a long shot. Off course their argument is keeping cost down for competitors but we all know better...

obviously the ISAF accepts the "foil-kite" as an international class :-)

I just found this on the IKA webside:
