French Long Distance Kitesurf Championship - Sète

Well the foil is moving on - in fact the foil is now a real competitor in Long distance kite races. Proved 18/19th Sept by Nichola Caillou (Zeeko-Kites) riding a strapless board, bastardised Carafino leg with my redefined alu prototype foil wings both front and rear. His best result 2nd overall and always 1st over all other foil riders including Mark Blanc (who's been nicknamed the foilboard extra terrestrial) in every leg of the championship. Winds varying from 30 to 15knts. Good news and just goes to show that a small dedicated team can produce winning equipment. Nicho is ranked 5th overall currently (saturday pm) and the level of this competition is very, very high. Great news for the kitefoil in general.

After Sunday's racing the final result left our man 'Zac' finishing 2nd in his catagory and just outside the outside the overall podium position in 4th by 0.4 of a point!! Slightly frustrating but that's what racing is all about. Personally I think this is a giant triumph for foil boarding, Zeeko-Kites and Nichola deserves a well earned pat on the back. He was the only competitor to beat the overall winner by finishing in 1st place in two of the races. The conditions over the 4 day event varied from marginal winds on Thursday, grey skies and 25-30knts SSE onshore on Friday with a seriously agitated sea, solid tram NW cross off on Saturday and Sunday was a gusty NW but race-able.

Nicho's comment 'we now have the fastest foil in the world without any doubt' - it will be interesting to see if we can move the foil speed forward again at the next event November '09'.

I'm so excited I may even go and participate myself - yo.. ho.. ho..
