Hi
Currently I am strapping my foil onto a North 2010 Race Ltd board which is a very strong constructed board. I want to rather use a surfboard so that it can be dual purpose (the race board is not fun anymore now that I have experienced a foil). But normal surfboards (even for kiting) are not strong enough so I am considering making my own board. Now I just need some advice on reinforcing.
I have a MHL Lift foil that has the standard block that screws into the board using four screws (unlike the fin box type of foils). Ideally I want no screws to stick out on top of the board, since I love surfing strapless and moving my feet around. I am thinking of putting bocks of PVC plastic inside the foam where the foil would screw onto, and tap thread into the PVC so that I can use stainless steel screws to tie the foil directly into the PVC blocks inside the board. I think the PVC thread will be strong enough if the thread is very long (say 4cm of thread per bolt). The only concern I have is that the PVC might not stick well enough to the top fibreglass lamination. Does anyone have ideas what to do there, or have any other ideas on how to reinforce the mounting part for a foil?
