since I´m surfing/skating/bodyboarding quite a while in my life it´s time to reflect.
study

I always thought that "we surfers" are one with nature. we want to save the planet and so one.
from our attitude YES! we DO care about nature and we (hopefully) do not leave trash on the beach.
also we are open minded and rather inclusive than exclusive with people. traveling makes us open to other cultures.
it all feels ok.

but with regards to our equipment, it could not be worse....

we are WRAPPED in plastic

everyting is made from oil-based products and a lot of chemicals are involved.
take anything we use: neoprene, boards, shoes, clothes, sunglasses, wax, leashes...
it´s even hard or almost impossible to recycle.

I am optimistic, that materials will be more sustainable in the future.
in the last 10-15 years people understood the problems and are willing to change.

I do not point fingers, because I think the consumer just uses what is offered. simple as that.
so the industry needs to change.

you can point fingers too. No problem for me. I eat biological food. It costs way more but is way better for ALL OF US.
I bought the less worst car I could find on the market. No diesel and lowest possible CO2 emission.
Cost a lot too. My choice.
Will the surfers be OK to pay more if the solutions for sustainable material cost more ? Not sure. My idea is that most of the kitesurfers I met are not "bio" people ready to spend more or to loose some advantages in their material.

But things do evolve. Let's cross our fingers Smile More and more people organize the trips to the spots to avoid using one more car. Well, the poorer do in fact. As soon as people have money, they tend to be not so conscious Sad about ecological aspects of our sports.

Or we can make choices about riding less plastic oriented boards - Foil board made from Paulownia
Yes I accept that the foil is Hi Mod carbon fibre - but a wooden foil as stiff as my Mach2 leg - mmmm I have some doubts about that being feasible.

Every little helps I guess - eco schmeeko

another weird thing for the archeologist discover in 3000 years exploring our oceans. There is now a completed foil from Franck, a complete foil with board from me, your foil.
What will they think. At least this material will not degrade as not ecological at all and they will be able to dicover it in a rather good state (?)
